County Promotional Video Sample
A promotional video for Blackford County which consists of Hartford City, Montpelier, Shamrock Lakes and part of Dunkirk, Indiana. This was in concordance with a grant from IOTD (Indiana Office of Tourism Development visitindianatourism.com) and is aimed at highlighting the current residents of Blackford County and also showcase the events and possibilities that Blackford County has to offer.
The client wanted a video that could be used for encouraging businesses and people to move into the area. After viewing many videos of this type I decided I wanted to go in a direction that would tug at the hearts of the people who lived in the area and to hit viewers with a love for small towns right in the feels. I saw this as their selling point. All the things that we idealize about small towns was their strength.
I sat down with my script collaborator (Matthew Gavenda of Ambit Design) and discussed directions and moods. I wanted this this piece to be driven by emotion and not raw data being slung at the audience, so I felt the beginning and the ending of the video needed to hit home. After we nailed down a solid direction and loose verbiage for the beginning and ending the rest fell into place.
I knew a guy from the area who owned a drone company (G3 Drone Solutions) and reached out to him to get specific shots of the area.
I was also fortunate to be working as a Audio Engineer at the time recording and mastering Voice Overs. The voice over artist here (Nathan Kroeger) had come in to do some work for GM and as soon as I heard his voice I asked him if he'd be part of this project. He graciously said yes.
I shot the film enlisting the help of a young up and coming video producer Thomas Robb. We shot on Lumix GH2's, Lumix G7’s, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, DJI Phantom 3 & 4, and finally an iPhone 7 Plus.  It was edited in the Adobe CC suite.
A local showing was held for this video along with the website and Logo’s Ambit design had been working on. The reception was amazing.  It was so awesome watching the video spread around Facebook and reading each post by the local citizens that were so touched by it.
